About Canines for

Christ of Southwest Ohio

Canines For Christ: Is a faith based Pet Therapy group, showing Christian love through giving and acting. Our first priority is the people we help.

Canines for Christ of Southwest Ohio has been an independent organization since 2012 when we became a non-profit 501c3 corporation. We are an accredited AKC Therapy Dog group, and offer all the benefits of various national organizations including liability insurance, Canines Good Citizen training, mentoring support, and numerous opportunities to share God's unconditional love with people in the Greater Cincinnati area which is the focus of our Ministry.

We are proud of our mission serving our local communities and would be pleased to have you and your beloved canine partner as valuable parts of our team.

What We Do:  Our primary focus is to get dogs and their handlers into the community visiting locations such as nursing homes, libraries, hospice, and many other locations.  We also run training classes throughout the year (one hour, once a week, for 8 weeks) geared toward helping our teams get through basic Obedience Training, and preparing them for taking the AKC Canine Good Citizen test.  Once the team has successfully passed the Canine Good Citizen test, they can be placed with an existing team to be mentored prior to doing visits on their own.

Cost:  It is our goal to keep costs as low as possible in order to encourage more people to join the cause.  Our training fee is $75 which covers as many 8 week training cycles as it takes for you to pass the Canine Good Citizen test. The training fee also includes the first year's membership fee of $50.  After your first year, there is an annual membership fee of $50 which enables us to cover the cost of our liability insurance (teams are covered during visits) and to participate in local community events. We train in Wyoming, OH at Ascension & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

Annual Dues Payments:  We are changing our dues payment structure to cut down on the time our volunteers spend with bookkeeping. Our previous structure was to have people pay their dues on the anniversary they joined.  This is a complicated process for us to track, and it's difficult for everyone to remember when they joined the group. Therefore, going forward annual dues will be collected in February of each year. If you joined prior to June of the previous year, we request that you pay dues in February. For example, if you joined the group in April of 2020, your dues would be paid in February 2021. If you join after June, you can defer your next payment to February 2022. Paying your dues ensures that you are a member in good standing, and covered by our liability policy should anything occur on one of your visits.

Annual dues are $50 for one dog. If you train multiple dogs, each additional dog is $10 per year. Please contact go to our Contact Information page for  additional information or for help with any questions (Contact Information).
