Additional Volunteering Opportunities
These are different facilities that have a little more flexibility in scheduling. There are places where we can help you get started with as well as allowing volunteers to build their own schedule. We are not limited to the list below, if you have questions about setting up a site to visit please contact us at infocontact@caninesforchrist.org
Mt. Healthy Early Learning Center:is interested in setting up monthly visits for each of their classes which would be a total of 4 visits each month. Three of the visits would be from 12:30 - 1:20 and the fourth would be in the morning from 9:15 - 10:05. The morning visit would be with the 1/2 day preschool class. They can have visits any day except Friday, so our volunteer(s) can pick the day that works best for them. It would be great if we could get at least 2 teams so the visits can be split up. However, if we have a team that is interested in doing 4 visits a month (so one a week), that's fine too. Please contact Dorothy Stadelmann (dorothystadelmann@me.com) if you are interested.
Children's Home of Northern KY:has locations in Covington and Burlington and would like to have visits from therapy dogs. The contact there is Courtney Wootton (recreation therapist) and she can be reached at either her work number is 859-292-4146 or cell 859-640-5679. They have two campuses, one in Covington and one in Burlington. The Covington campus is boys only and most boys are there between 30-90 days. The Burlington campus is girls only and they can house 10 girls at any one time. Courtney has advised that they can be flexible regarding time and days of the week. Weekends can work and they can also accept visits in the evenings.
Carriage Court:is located at 4650 East Galbraith in Kenwood and they are interested in having visits from therapy dogs. They are very flexible around times and days, so if you are interested please contact Dorothy Stadelmann (dorothystadelmann@me.com) and she will help you get set up there.
North Elementary School:in Mt. Healthy is looking for a few teams to visit their school on either Tuesday or Thursday mornings. Please contact Dorothy Stadelmann (dorothystadelmann@me.com) if you would like to make visits to this school. The first visit went great and they want to make this an ongoing event for the children.
Village of Eastgate and The Glen:Formerly Eastgate Village, this facility is located at 776 Cincinnati-Batavia Pike near Eastgate Mall. They are looking for teams to make visits. The company managing Village of Eastgate now also manages The Glen on Glen-Este Withamsville near Veterans Park. If you are interested in visiting either location, please contact Diana Dawson (dbd0002003@gmail.com).
Siena Gardens:Also located on the East side, this facility is very interested in having visits for their residents. They are located on SR125 and are very close to Lazlo's Iron Skillet restaurant (so they aren't too far up on 125). They can be very accommodating with days and times. Please contact Diana Dawson if you would like to make visits.
Mt. Healthy Early Learning Center (associated with Mt. Healthy Elementary):has requested some therapy teams. We currently have members visiting the elementary school and that has been very well received by the students. The preschool and kindergarten classrooms would love to have visits as well! This might be a good place for some of our small to medium size dogs. Please contact Dorothy Stadelmann (dorothystadelmann@me.com) if you are interested.
Crossroads: This facility is located in Clifton at the corner of MLK and Burnet Avenues. They are a rehab facility and would like to start visits again. The time would be 3:00 pm, but the day is flexible. Please contact Diana Dawson if you are interested in making visits.
Ronald McDonald House:RMH is looking to bring back therapy pets starting in 2022. They are reaching out to us to see if our members are still interested in participating. Their current guidelines are:
-All volunteers must be fully vaccinated and free of cold symptoms during the visit.
-All volunteers must always wear a mask that completely covers their nose and mouth.
-Only the assigned volunteer and their dog may come onto the property (no additional visitors allowed).
-The handler must present proper ID as well as proof of current membership with Canines for Christ.
The organizer at RMH will discuss details with volunteers. They are looking to have visits at firm times. They are open all week and time slots would be 1:00 - 2:00 pm or 7:00 - 8:00 pm. If you are interested, please contact Dorothy Stadelmann (dorothystadelmann@me.com).
Mercy Anderson and Mercy Clermont Hospitals: Both hospitals are open for therapy dogs and would like to have more therapy teams visit. You will need to attend a volunteer orientation at the hospital, and must provide your dog's shot records and proof of their Canine Good Citizen certification. You can contact the hospital directly at 513-624-4676 and talk with Tracy Taylor or Jennifer. Please let Diana Dawson (dbd0002003@gmail.com) know if you begin visits so that we can update the list of facilities we visit. They are still taking volunteers.
